Pre-rolled cones and wraps for smoking – easy, convenient options for a smooth roll every time

Ultimate Guide to Smoking Paper: Cones vs Wraps vs Papers

Hello there, fellow enthusiasts! If you're like me, you've probably found yourself standing in front of a display at your local head shop or convenience store, pondering the age-old question: cones or wraps? It's a debate as old as time in the cannabis community, and today, we're diving deep into it. Visitor's to the store will attest to the large and unique array that we offer and I feel at times that we may overwhelm them!

Would you like flavour with that?

Face to face in-store I would have one question to ask you to help direct you  - would you like to include additional flavour in the mix? Many brands infuse flavour directly into their paper/cones with some using artificial flavours and other more elite brands choosing true terpenes for their blends. A select few, such as King Palm use poppable beads that reside within the filter.

Why choose flavour? A few reasons; you may not necessarily enjoy the natural flavour of your herbal material or you may wish to explore specific flavours to facilitate the Entourage Effect.

Pre-Rolled Cones: The Convenient Choice

Let's start with pre-rolled cones. These are a popular option for many, especially those who might not have mastered the art of rolling. The ease of use is undeniable—just grind your herb, pack it in, and you're good to go. No more struggling with rolling joints or dealing with uneven burns.

Cones come in various sizes, from the standard 1¼ to the larger King size plus a few over sized options, each catering to different preferences and occasions. Which size you choose is all about your own preferences and whether you are sharing. The vast majority will present in a funnel-like shape, flaring out from the pre-installed filter. All pre-rolled cones will have a filter installed, almost all made from paper but with a select few using glass, hemp and activated carbon to fashion unique filters tip.

Brands like RAW (and many many more brands) offer a range of cones made from different materials, including hemp cones, banana leaves flax, palm and rice papers, each promising a slow burn and a smooth smoking session. Which material is right for you? This may involve a little trial and error before you find your exact match. Thickness will vary with beginners opting for slightly more robust materials and connoisseurs vying for the thinnest backrolled papers/cones they can find.

Traditional Rolling Papers: The Classic Approach

On the other hand, traditional rolling papers have been the go-to for many seasoned smokers. They offer a level of customisation that cones can't match. You can choose from various sizes and materials, such as wood pulp, rice papers, bamboo and hemp. Each material has its unique burn rate and flavour profile, allowing you to tailor your smoking experience.

Rolling joints might require a bit of skill, but for many, it's part of the ritual. The satisfaction of crafting the perfect joint is unmatched, and with practice, it becomes second nature. If you are determined but your skill level is poor you can use a hand held rolling machine to assist in the process. I highly recommend a dedicated rolling station to elevate your ritual.

If you are a beginner it may be easier to start with the smaller 1¼ size papers. The longer the sheet of paper, the harder it is to maneuver into position. Please don't forget that you will require a filter. Many papers will provide cardboard filter tips within the same package or you may need to by a separate pack. Filters can be purchased flat or already formed.

Wraps Can be Confusing

Wraps are not as well known as standard rolling papers and they an be daunting for some. Think of them as larger sized papers that generally have a raw and less processed appearance, like a cigar. Wraps are almost always unbleached and you will definitely need some level of rolling proficiency as they can be on the thinner side and can rip.

Hemp wraps are the most popular type, offering a thicker and slower burn without the inclusion of any tobacco/nicotine. The hemp may or may not be toasted. Once again please check if filter tips are included with your wraps or whether you will require some.

Blunt Wraps: For the Bold

For those who prefer a more robust experience, blunt wraps are the way to go. These wraps are made from tobacco leaves and offer a thicker, slower burn with an added buzz. They're a popular choice among blunt smokers who enjoy the combination of cannabis and tobacco or the unique flavours that wraps can provide.

Many of our customers ask us about purchasing a blunt wrap and we let them know that laws prohibit us from selling blunt wraps of any style. This is due to the nicotine content and they fall under the "Tobacco Act" with specific laws applied. We adhere to all Australian Laws at We are Lux! I direct all customers to our hemp wrap options.

Environmental Impact and Materials

When considering the environmental impact, hemp papers and wraps are often touted as more sustainable options. Hemp grows quickly and requires fewer pesticides, making it a more eco-friendly choice compared to traditional wood pulp papers.
However, it's essential to note that the production processes and sourcing practices of different brands can vary. If sustainability is a priority for you, research brands that prioritize natural materials and environmentally friendly practices.

Personal Preference: The Deciding Factor

At the end of the day, the best option boils down to personal preference. If convenience and ease of use are your top priorities, pre-rolled cones might be your best bet. If you value customization and the ritual of rolling, traditional papers are the way to go. And if you're looking for a bold, flavourful experience, wraps could be your perfect match.

Remember, the cannabis industry offers a plethora of options to suit every smoker's needs. Whether you're rolling joints, packing cones, or wrapping blunts, the key is to enjoy the process and find what works best for you.
