The reason for it all

Truly! We opened our first store in Kingsford (Lux Cuttings Hydroponics) when he was just a puppy, a glorious black whippet. He looked like a super shiny seal. We wanted to spend all our time with him, so we quit our jobs, signed a lease and then hoped for the best. Lux became our mascot from day one and as we had no furniture (or product) at first, we spent most of our days playing with him. We were in over our heads, but he made it all worth it.

Time passed, we moved and a second business emerged. We are Lux was born and he moved into my little boutique in Bondi Junction. His bed had pride of place in the window, right at the bus stop. He drew an audience each and every day, especially the school kids every afternoon. He shared his bed with other visiting dogs and just made my life so much better. It was quite lonely being there alone and I am so grateful he was by my side. A shout out to his closest friends; Sophia, Ivy and Jewell. All 3 spent many days/hours cuddling up with Lux.

Covid came and went and somehow, we survived. We merged 2 stores into 1 and Lux moved again. His range of beds increased with multiple options over 2 floors. He knows when each staff member is about to have lunch and places himself accordingly. Patiently and silently, staring until he gets his reward. Not just staff, Lux is well known all over Bondi with many visitors popping in just to bring him something (shout out to Helen!).

Lux is 15 and currently lying at my feet, not meaning to make anyone sad but he is close to the end. There are tears in my eyes as I type, and I am running out of tissues. His legacy will live on. Everybody’s dog is special, but Lux is really something amazing and I am grateful that he has been by my side adoring me for all these years. A kind dog that has never displayed any aggression or even really barked. A dog that shares his bones with dogs he has never seen before and he has never met a cat that he hasn’t tried to chase, failing each and every time.

My best buddy.
